Police chase going wrong way on freeway

Again, I can’t even explain how angry this makes me. There is a helicopter following already, so there is no reason to chase some reckless and stupid driver down the freeway.

This fool got so confused he went the wrong way on the freeway into oncoming traffic. In 2006,  about 300 people died yearly over police chases, last I heard, it is at 500 die to police chases.

There was a show on this week that talked about “police chase syndrome” where the adrenalin is so high and the cops get tunnel vision over the excitement of the chase that once the suspect stops, he gets killed anyway. It seems many suspects are killed after these chases and police blame it on this “syndrome” as to why they kill a suspect that is not armed.

At the end, the police hit the guy with the police car… WTF? Are they now judge, jury and executioner? It seems they felt he deserved a death sentence since he could have been easily killed by the car hitting him.

So what did this guy do that the police felt they needed to chase him down. It seems he was accused of theft.

ATLANTA — Alonzon Jones may have a lot to answer for. Jones, 29, Saturday found himself in the Fulton County Jail, facing a host of charges for his role in a wild police chase Friday afternoon.

It was a chase that included a wrong-way driving, blown tires and, finally, the suspect, Jones, run down by a police car after he ditched his own car and tried to escape on foot. Predictably, traffic was snarled in the area where it all ended…I-285 at Moreland Avenue.

The chase began just after 5:00 p.m. in southeast Atlanta.

The driver pulled onto the Perimeter and started driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes in DeKalb County. Rush hour drivers headed eastbound had to dodge the fleeing suspect as he veered across four lanes of the Interstate.

A blown tire slowed him down, but didn’t stop him. With smoke coming from the flat tire he kept running from police. Officers stayed on the correct side of 285 but kept pace with him.

At one point the suspect pulled a U-turn across the highway and headed for an exit. Police were anticipating that move and had a car waiting for him. When the suspect slammed on his brakes and jumped from the car the police cruiser slammed into him and sent him flying. Looking like an NFL running back the suspect bounced right back up and took off with an officer hot on his heels. With the officer closing ground quickly, the suspect turned and surrendered.

Police charged Jones with theft by receiving stolen auto, felony obstruction and a host of traffic violations.

yeah, I know what you are saying… but some small infraction is not cause for chase nor to kill innocent motorists.

7 years back a friend of mine and some others were in a bad wreck because of a car police chase they knew nothing about. The cop hit the suspect that hit them on the road, my friend had her throat crushed and has not been able to talk since.

yes, the people running are dumb as bricks and reckless, but the police should not be and if it is some minor crime as most are, they should get the plate and get them at home so 400 people yearly do not lose their lives over it… and the 1000’s like my friend who lost their health.

Many states now have new laws for it, but, the police still do it. there is a film about it, they say that people (police) just get stuck in the excitement of the chase and forget safety.. I do believe it, especially watching them run over that unarmed dude running.
